re: AVTechNo's "retirement" and KAT-TUN plagiarizing DYE.

For those of you not in the know, AVTechNo deleted all of his works from NND just yesterday, with the exception of collaborations and mixing jobs (though songs were still available on his YT account and other places).

People speculated that this was in relation to a comment he made in a live about wanting a "fresh start". However Treow just tweeted this link and it would appear we have official word on why the sudden mass deletion this is actually unrelated to the deletion!

I'm too sleepy to do a full translation, but the gist is that he is very sorry for deleting things all of a sudden, that he feels bad for doing this to the people who have supported him and his songs all this time. However, he wanted to share a story. Apparently there were some comments on DYE (which was first uploaded in February of this year) about how the song was very similar to KAT-TUN's NEVER x OVER. So he went, looked up the song and found this:

EDIT: The YT has been now privatized, but have a link to a mashup of both songs here. KAT-TUN can be heard on the left speaker and Luka on the right.

He was, of course, incredibly shocked. He does not know about any of the details behind this, but he would like those familiar with DYE to give the song a listen and compare.

ETA: To clarify, KAT-TUN's song was released on November 17th of this year, while DYE was released back on February 1st.

Just because AVTechno isn't that well known, besides his Vocaloid work, means that he should be at blame? If anything, Kat-Tun's at fault here. That is totally, and completely wrong. Music is still music in my ears. Even if it's with computer programs.

I seriously hope that AVTechno gets this whole thing settled soon, because it's just rediculous. He's such a good composer, even though he's been eh lately, the Vocaloid community would be a sad place without him.

So according to treow, he deleted the songs due to all the stress build up over time and did it on an impulse. treow also stated that AV is not quitting Nico and it had nothing to do with any commercial contracts or whatnot and he will post an apologize on his blog later on.

I am kind of amused by the timing considering there was that drama with some member of The Gazette insulting Miku on his twitter or something just yesterday.

Except I'm not amused at all because as a huge fan of AVTechNO!, I am /really pissed off right now/.　Regardless of peoples' opinions of Vocaloids, ripping off music is not cool. At all.

Hello, I hope you don't mind me leaving a comment here. Twitter turned into quite the mess

There are 7 composers listed for the song, but 6 out of 7 are only in there because the song also contains remixes of the members' previous solo songs. Hans Johnson is the odd one out, and he's also credited for the arrangement, so people are guessing that he's the one responsible for the problematic parts. The only other thing that they've found in his name is that he arranged Arashi's Kaze no Mukou e, but that's it. (Details from here, a fan put what she knew together: http://j.mp/hs1GEX)

I don't think this issue has gotten to the international KAT-TUN fandom yet, but the Japanese fans are upset over this too (especially since it was supposed to be a special song and that composer just had to go and do this). Everyone's just hoping that the people won't hold it against the the group itself.

I really hope they do something about it because it's pretty darn obvious that the composer plagiarized from it, and I wish the best for AVTechNo as well.

I haven't really looked at the KAT-TUN side of things (beyond the stuff in AV's post), but I think all things considered, everyone is being reasonable. IE: Not blaming the boys, but the people behind the song, which is at least a good start. Now it's just a matter of seeing how this works out for AV. :(d

Anyways, some of you on twitter probably have seen this already, but I made some comparison clips that are pretty eerie.

NEVER x OVER (インスト) + DYE (ボーカル)
Extracted Luka vocals from DYE with NEVER x OVER instrumental.

NEVER x OVER (ボーカル) + DYE (インスト)
Extracted KAT-TUN vocals from DYE with DYE instrumental.

Notes: I messed around with the vocal extractor a bit, so I was able to get a clean rip. Whatever instrumentals used are purely the instrumentals stated (I want to make sure that I got rid of any leftover/background noise from the extracted vocals' original music to prevent the comparisons from being compromised). I did not use any tempo or pitch changer for both the vocals and instrumentals (but I did normalize the audio). All I did was align the tracks accordingly. Audio sources are from CD rips for ensured QUALITY.

Materials used:
- Audacity
- Utagoe
- DYE and DYE (instrumental) from ELECTROCUTICA's "DYE -Synthesis-"
- NEVER x OVER(ry and NEVER x OVER(ry (Original Karaoke) from KAT-TUN's "CHANGE UR WORLD [Regular Edition]"


tl;dr if you still don't believe that there was plagiarism (or any similarities at all), you sure are one deluded c*ntbag. :v

Woah, this was incredibly lucky timing for me. I had just ripped AVTechNO's entire collection (including his extremely old songs) using NicoSound a few days ago. For those who didn't get a chance to grab his songs, I'm uploading it all to my MediaFire at the moment. However, like the previous posts were saying, buy his albums if you're able to. They're better quality than the rips, and it'll be nice to support him in the meantime, while we wait to see how this turns out. I certainly will be buying all of his new albums which I don't have yet.
